There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat casino, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that contains a number of luxuries on top of the casino, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
